Galactic Conquests Demo (v0.1)
A downloadable game for Windows
GALACTIC CONQUESTS
About
Galactic Conquests (GC) is a RAID: Shadow Legends inspired game. But I have the goal of changing all of the things I dislike in RAID, especially the greedy pay-to-win monetization. GC is not intended to be a clone of RAID either, although it will include a lot of similar features and mechanics. The core distinction is that GC allows players to move their characters around a level map, using turn-based movement and actions, rather than just doing a 3-stage stationary turn-based battle. Please, please, please leave a comment, or send a message with any feedback!
State of the Game as of Demo v0.1
This is an early stage prototype demo of the game. It will have bugs. A couple that I know of are:
- The audio volume settings do work, but the sliders must be moved before the volume will match their position.
- When selecting the Ranged character's Shoot Action for the first time in a battle, the range indication is not displayed properly. Click the action button again and it will work, displaying the range on the ground in yellow, and any targets that can be fired upon in red.
- The character's action sound FX are not exactly timed right, because the 3 characters currently in the game are only test units.
- The camera controller allows the camera to be moved outside the level area.
You can click around the menu to get a feel for what to expect later on in development, but the only currently working content is Conquests, Hero Roster, Call For Backup (Summoning), and Settings.
You get 2 starter characters, and a third can be unlocked by collecting Fuses as a Reward drop from the playable level. You will be able to level-cap your characters. The 2 starters are Common Rank I characters that will cap at level 10, while the 3rd unlockable Hero is a Rare which starts at Rank II that will level cap at 20. The full game will have ways to rank up your Heroes, at which point a Common can be ranked up to Rank V and level 50, while the Rare can go to Rank VI and level 60. Ranking up mechanics have not been implemented yet.
Note: The current turn system is from a turn-based strategy course project that the gameplay mechanics are based on. Currently, it allows a player to move all of their characters, and then the enemy team gets to move all of theirs. In the next version, this will be updated so that each character gets their turn based on an Agility stat, regardless of which team they are on.
How To Play
To play a level:
- Click on "Conquests"
- Choose between Easy and Normal difficulty
- Choose your 2 Heroes and Click Start
- Your Heroes will load into the level
- Each character gets 2 action points per turn, and each action has a required number of points to use. Note: the Wait Action, which really isn't needed at this point, says 2 points required but should also work with only 1.
- Use the Controls below to navigate the level and kill the enemy team
- You can click End Turn in the bottom right of the screen at any time, but when you run out of Action points, click it to give the enemy a turn, after which your Action points will be reset.
Controls
Left-click on a Hero to select them
Left-click on an Action button
Right-click on a valid grid space (highlighted in some color) to perform the action.
(It is important to note that you must LEFT-click the character to select them, but RIGHT-click the ground to perform an Action! This will be updated so that right-clicks work on the character units as well.)
Move the Camera around with WASD, rotate it with Q or E
Mouse scroll wheel zooms in/out
Middle-click the mouse to reset the camera
Development Plans
Boss Battles, Interactive Adventure Levels, PVP (of various types), Equipment to power up your Heroes, and much more coming!
